KCAP is the word we use instead of saying “Knox County Area Project.” We are a chartered not-for-profit corporation with 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt status. We are governed by a Board of Directors.
The overall purpose of KCAP is to develop and maintain an environment for support for youth and youth concerns through the development of adult neighborhood organizations that we call Community Committees.
KCAP is not a “casework” agency or child welfare agency like a youth service bureau. Our major focus is community organization. KCAP staff offers limited direct service to youth.
Each Community Committee is made up of people living in the community.
The committees work to reduce and prevent juvenile delinquency by identifying needs and concerns in the community and alleviating conditions which put youth at risk while using the available resources of the community and constantly promoting positive youth development.
The Community Committees focus on their local situations and possible solutions.
It has been said that the greatest way to make a difference in the world is to influence the life a of a child.
The members of the Community Committees of Knox County Area Project are influencing children throughout the county, and making a difference. If you would like to join in this satisfying work, please contact KCAP at 309-343-4127.
